Co-creating Justice and Collective Care

Join Judge Denise Hernández for a powerful conversation on justice through a community-centered lens. Grounded in lived experience and radical empathy, this session explores how collective care and non-traditional approaches can redefine public safety, justice, and community.

About the Presenter

Judge Denise Hernández is a community organizer, constitutional law professor at Huston-Tillotson University, and the Presiding Judge of County Court at Law #6 in Travis County. She also leads the Transformative Youth Justice program, a holistic, community-centered diversion program for young people impacted by the justice system. She is a leading voice for trauma-informed approaches in and out of the courtroom, and her work has been recognized both locally and nationally. In 2024, she was honored as Austinite of the Year for her visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to community. At the heart of her work, Judge Hernández hopes to co-create a justice system that uplifts, protects, and truly belongs to the people.

About the GAACC Women’s Club

The Women's Club is the GAACC's monthly member meetup where woman-identified leaders in the community come together to share a meal at one of our member restaurants while enjoying a leadership presentation or talk. The meetups usually last an hour and a half, with the first 30 minutes dedicated to networking and the next hour for the presentation. Other than these leadership lunches, we also host periodic wellness events where the focus is on women's physical and mental health. The GAACC Women's Club is led by our 2025 GAACC Women's Club Captain, Saamiya Seraj, co-founder of A Better Force.
