May Women's Club Meeting

May Women's Club Meeting

Thursday, May 8, 2025 (11:30 AM - 1:00 PM) (CDT)

Description

Growing From Our Roots
Christine Langa (Asian Family Support Services of Austin) will provide an overview of AFSSA's services, highlighting local demographics, cultural humility, and the dynamics and barriers Asian survivors face. Attendees will have a chance to reflect on their own cultural identities and will come away with trauma-informed strategies to better support survivors.

About the Presenter
Christine Langa's role as the Community Access Manager at AFSSA is focused on better supporting rural communities and making services supporting survivors more accessible. Her team focuses on higher education spaces, faith communities, engaging with public libraries, and any community partner interested in working with reducing barriers for Asian and immigrant survivors of violence in rural communities and beyond.

Christine's family lines can be traced to both the Philippines and Slovakia. As a biracial woman who was raised with a parent for whom the United States was not their first home, she witnessed the struggles immigrants face. Christine is proud to have worked in the field of gender-based violence prevention for over 25 years and is constantly inspired by the activism and innovation of those doing the work each and every day to make the world safer, stronger, and more equitable. Mariame Kaba's words, "Hope is a discipline," are a north star for her. She believes a world centered around justice and compassion is possible.

About the GAACC Women’s Club
The Women's Club is our monthly member meetup in the GAACC where leaders in the community come together to share a meal at one of our member restaurants, while enjoying a leadership presentation or talk. The meetups usually last an hour and a half, with the first 30 minutes dedicated for networking and the next hour for the presentation. Other than these leadership lunches, we also host wellness events from time to time, where the topic of focus is on women's physical and mental health. The GAACC Women's Club is led by our 2025 GAACC Women's Club Captain, Saamiya Seraj, co-founder of A Better Force

Come join us for our next event! The Women's Club events are free to paid members of the GAACC, and cost only $15 for non-members.

NOTE: Anyone registering for this event who is not a current GAACC member will receive a complimentary Associate-level membership to the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce. By registering, you agree to receive email communications from the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce.
