Description

Ballet Folklorico de Austin and the Long Center present Guelaguetza Oaxaqueña performed by the Ballet Folklórico de Austin. Join us for a dazzling evening commemorating one of the liveliest and most joyful festivals celebrated in Oaxaca, Mexico each July. In the colorful mosaic of Oaxacan festivals and traditions, the Guelaguetza stands out for its deep roots in the Mexican state’s cultural identity. Guelaguetza commemorates the mutual interdependence of the people within the community and celebrates the importance to indigenous cultures of sharing, reciprocity, and extended community. 


Ballet Folklórico de Austin is a dance group founded in 2014 under the direction of maestro Edgar Yepez and are known for presenting memorable programs marked by beautiful dance and colorful authentic regional dress.
