EGBI Lunch & Learn: Build Your Capability Statement to Get Noticed by Contractors

Wednesday, April 15, 2026 (11:30 AM - 1:00 PM) (CDT)

Description

Build Your Capability Statement: Get Noticed by Prime Contractors

This hands-on workshop, presented by our partners at EGBI Business Accelerator, is designed for participants to learn how to create a capability statement—a one-page professional document that clearly communicates who you are, what type of work you do, and why prime contractors or procurement specialists should hire you. We’ll break down the key components of a strong capability statement, help you define your scope of work, and show you how to present your experience in a way that builds credibility and trust.

By the end of the workshop, participants will understand how to use their capability statement to introduce their business, respond to opportunities, and position themselves for partnerships and contracts.

Who should attend?

  • Construction workers and skilled tradespeople who want to turn their experience into more consistent, higher-value work.
  • Businesses pursuing government, city, or large commercial projects that require a capability statement.

About the Speaker:

As Community and Citizenship Manager, Hien Tran (“HT”) develops and manages community outreach, educational, and economic inclusion programming that supports the long-term growth and sustainability of the construction industry ecosystem.

Before entering the civilian workforce, HT is a Veteran of the US Army as an Active-Duty Infantry Sergeant, where he deployed as an Alpha Weapon Team Leader supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom (Task Force 17). A Veteran entrepreneur himself, HT founded his own small business and successfully operated as the CEO for Anvil Builders Inc., a disabled veteran business enterprise certified in general engineering and general building.

HT brings this unique combination of community engagement, equity and inclusion, and project management experience to Turner Construction by cultivating sustainable economic impact for minority-owned, women-owned, disadvantaged, and small businesses, and to inspire the next generation of go-getters to imagine themselves in a fulfilling career in the construction industry.
