Description

Ruffle Some Feathers: A Live Storytelling Event

Thursday, October 22, 2026
KUT Studio 1A | Austin, TX
Presented by GAACC NextGen, Accent Unmuted, FYP, and KUT

Save the date for Ruffle Some Feathers, a live storytelling event centered on Asian and Asian American voices, accented voices, and the moments when speaking up changed something.

This special evening will feature a curated group of storytellers sharing personal, 5–7 minute stories about a time they challenged an expectation, disrupted the status quo, pushed back on convention, or used their voice to create change.

The stories may come from the workplace, family, culture, entrepreneurship, leadership, community, or somewhere completely unexpected. What connects them is a willingness to question what was accepted and make space for something different.

This is not a TED Talk or a formal speaking competition. It is personal storytelling: honest, specific, and told in each speaker’s own voice.

Event Schedule

5:30–6:30 PM — Networking
6:30–8:00 PM — Live Storytelling Program
8:00–9:00 PM — Networking

Additional event details, including the speaker lineup and registration information, will be announced soon.

About Accent Unmuted

Accent Unmuted is a nonprofit live storytelling series dedicated to changing the way accented immigrants are heard and perceived through stories that build familiarity, empathy, and community.

Events take place at KUT’s Studio 1A and feature vibrant, funny, heartfelt, and memorable stories told by people whose voices are often left off the mic. Stories also have the opportunity to be featured through KUT’s radio programming.

Call for Speakers

We are currently looking for members of the Asian and Asian American community who have a story connected to the theme Ruffle Some Feathers.

If you have a story about speaking up, challenging expectations, disrupting the status quo, or pushing for change — or you know someone who does — we encourage you to submit a nomination.

Selected storytellers will receive coaching and support from Accent Unmuted as they develop their story for the stage.
